Blower motor won't turn off

Have a 2005 Touareg V6. The blower motor for the heating/a-c will not turn off. It keeps running even with key off or even completely out. Had to pull fuse to keep from discharging battery. Any ideas?

You haven't pressed the REST button by mistake have you? I have never used it so I don't know if it carries on running if the key has been removed.

It sounds like the same quirk I've been experiencing on my car. VW said it was a normal thing for the cooling fans to run sometimes when the car is off after driving. Sounds like total BS to me since ai have never seen this happen on any car ai have had before. the blower is coming from the engine and blows hot air down under the car and out. It's an odd thing to experience because it makes you think something is wrong with the car, and there might be something wrong. In my case, my shop guys think the coolant sensor is out of wack. They're supposed to change it tomorrow, so we'll see what happens after that.

The way I read the original post is that it is the internal heater fan that's not switching off, not the external radiator fans.

My 2013 also has the REST button ( I personally love it now that the weather is colder, it really does keep the car warm for about 15 minutes). BUT I must press it after shutting down the car. It is not on by default at all times. It is off by default.

Perhaps your REST button is stuck pressed in??? French fry grease?? Just saying.

I'm pretty sure it's not the REST button/function. It continues to run whether I have the climate control system in auto or manual mode. Sometimes it shuts down immediately when I turn the ignition off. Most of the time it shuts off after a period of an hour or so. The blower motor just seems to slowly wind down. Occasionally, it just keeps running and drains the battery.

Could this be the resistor for the blower motor?

Sounds like a bad sensor to me.

Bringing this back to life.
My blower motor died about a week ago. Ordered one online and swapped it out. Real easy to do. Blower works great but tends to keep running after I park and shut her down. Got in it on Sunday after having driven all over town Saturday running errands and the battery is completely stone cold dead. I haven’t completely zeroed in on the problem but my inclination is the new blower is working perfectly but rather the control module is acting up and not responding properly to commands from the ecu/controls. I’ll jack up the fan speed and nothing will happen....or it just stays on draining my battery. I’m gonna look into this tonight and order me up a module and report back. If anyone has changed theirs out, some guidance would be appreciated.

Worst part of it all was I had my walk of shame date in the car that morning lmao....atleast she felt bad and paid for the Uber home 😏

Cheers!
